Backpacking in Denali with Ben and Sameet

The Savage River Valley with Fang Mountain looming in the background. We spent three nights in the backcountry. Fortunately, the grizzlies left us alone.

The Savage River was not quite as menacing as the name might imply, but what a wonderful place it is.

The nights were short, and the sunsets were long and spectacular.

As we got deeper into the valley, the views of Fang Mountain really opened up.

Sameet enjoys the view.

We saw several moose antler racks laying on the ground. Other animals chew on them to reclaim the minerals. We saw a bull moose through the trees, but he did not pose for a photo. We saw numerous tracks and lots of scat including wolf, bear, and moose.

There are a series four of beaver dams on the Savage River one on top of the other like locks.

The cloud formations were incredible. We had surprisingly little rain, but it did rain every day.

Our last morning together was so clear that we could see the mountain over 50 miles away. It is the snow covered one.
